Asclepias incarnata

Asclepias incarnata, swamp milkweed, is a beautiful native perennial with clusters of upturned pink flowers in June and July.  The fragrant, vanilla scented flowers bloom on 24 to 48" stems and are a favorite of butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees.  Give it evenly moist soil for the best growth.

    Asclepias tuberosa

Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed) has flat orange flower clusters that bloom in early to mid summer at the tops of tall stems with green, lance shaped foliage. In Michigan they grow wild along hot and dry, sandy banks and slopes, so you don't need to water these after planting.
