Baptisia 'Dutch Chocolate'

Baptisia 'Dutch Chocolate'

Baptisia 'Dutch Chocolate' (PPAF) has uniquely colored chocolate-purple flowers with a slight yellow midrib, flowering in early summer on long spikes over a mound of blue-green foliage that grows 3' high and 2 to 3' wide. This Baptisia is a Proven Winners perennial and part of the Decadence™ Series of Baptisia plants. The unique chocolate color combines best with brighter flowers such as oranges and yellows so plant it with early flowering daylilies, bright yellow Iris, or with yellow Baptisia for the best effect.

Baptisia is a member of the legume family so it has a pea-like flower and rounded leaves like sweet peas and lupines. They grow to shrub-like proportions but die back to the ground each winter. It grows from a very deep taproot and will develop a massive root system over time, but can be moved successfully when dormant in the spring and fall.

Height: 30 - 36" Spacing: 24 - 36" apart
Light: Full sun to part sun Soil: Any average to rich, well-draining

Thank you for visiting our online catalog. Spring shipping has begun so we are busy digging and prepping orders to get them out to you for spring planting. Shipping from our Michigan nursery in April means you are getting cold hardened perennial plants that were growing outdoors and can be planted directly out in your garden too. Hostas will be breaking ground here in May so if you are in a colder climate or still have a risk of frosts or freezes this is actually a good time to get your shipment because you can still plant them outside and then they will come up on your garden schedule. Or if you prefer we can hold your hosta orders until after your danger of frost has passed, just specify your preferred shipping time at checkout and we'll get your order on our schedule.

In addition to our hostas and perennials we are shipping Dutch lily bulbs from our lily coolers and everything currently in stock on our website is ready to ship right away. Orders for field dug perennials take about 7 to 10 days to turn around due to our busy spring schedule but lily bulbs typically ship within a few days of placing your order.

If you have any questions or concerns you can email us or call us toll free at (866) 568-1474.

Thank you very much for your support and think spring!
