These perennials tend to either tolerate or enjoy hot, dry, sunny garden conditions. A few actually need these conditions to thrive, others will need some moisture from time to time but are considered drought tolerant.

    Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed) has flat orange flower clusters that bloom in early to mid summer at the tops of tall stems with green, lance shaped foliage. In Michigan they grow wild along hot and dry, sandy banks and slopes, so you don't need to water these after planting.
