Where does one go to buy one of these? I never see it in the offerings.

Be VERY careful. I bought one last year for $200 from an old nursery in Iowa. A division of their large display plant. It didn't flower last year, although it was a nice single division. Unfortunately it did flower this year...with dark purple flowers! I'm about to ask for my money back. It's surely only a DB seedling.

Thanks Jamie. I did email and asked. Haven't heard yet.

George I'll be sure to deal only with reputable dealers. Sorry about your plant not being DB.

I'll step back and ask the question...

Why do you want a true DB? Is it for the seedlings? If so, streaked seedlings with give you the same genes. I've used a couple DB descendants and had had excellent results when hybridizing. Plus, they're much cheaper!

Just a thought. :)

This year in Indy, Dr. Jim Wilkins got the "Alex J. Summers" distinguished merit award and named his hosta, Dorothy Benedict. It does NOT T.C. as so many streaked ones don't come true to name. I got mine when a gal in Ill. retired and sold everything to travel in an RV. (Beth Arnold) I paid the going rate for OS DB, $200-. It's the same 5 division plant 7 years later. Those seboliana's just don't grow quickly. I harvest the pods every summer and donate them. This year a MN guy won the high bid on the AHS auction from my open pollenated pods. He's having lotsa fun with it's babies. White Oak Nursery is the only one I know of who has sold DB. Maybe they're out. Good luck trying to get yourself one. I'm kinda glad it's rare. Later, Love, Lisa
Have I mentioned lately that my drinking team has a hosta problem?

DB has been out in TC for over a year now. I know of 2 people that were/are selling them. It's been said that streakers don't tc well, so that's why the ones on the market are a little higher in price. But you also notice that there's a lot of tc streakers out on the market. Dorset Clown has been the most challenging to tc, but it's out in tc now also..

White Oaks has three DB for sale at $250. If I can't find a TC of it I may bite the bullet but you can bet that one will be locked in a wire cage so no varmint can get at it!!!!
