Pic of the Day--Reptillian

Postby Hank Zumach » Aug 15, 2007 10:12 am

Hi All--Let's face it. Sometimes we buy hosta varieties based on the name only. That's why I bought today's variety, Reptillian, in 2002. Being a manly man, I thought I'd be getting something primitive and exotic and, well, reptilian. (notice the two spellings of the word). What I got was a slow developing variety that has an interesting, corrugated, piecrusted leaf. It does have a decent growth rate. Growing in a spot that might get a couple of hours of direct sun, it has measured 15x4, 22x9, 33x11, 38x15, 38x15 and 45x14. It is listed as a medium-large variety. Slugs have been easily controlled.

It produces some interesting seedlings too. You can cross it both ways.

I would share a pic of mine, but it is covered in bird droppings.
