Pic of the Day--Millie's Memoirs

Hi All--I have mixed feelings about today's variety, Millie's Memoirs. It is an attractive, variegated plant until it eventually turns into a solid colored gold one, apparently reverting back in the direction of its sport parent, Aspen Gold. My original plant was purchased in 2000 and by the time it was killed in 2005 about 75% of the leaves had reverted. The plant we received in 2006 for our Friendship Garden has started the same process.

Regardless of all that, we enjoy the plant and expect it to grow larger than the registration size of 24x12. It measured 14x10 in 2006 and 18x9 this year. Its good substance should discourage any slug damage.

I really REALLY like the gold sport of this, which I divided off. The main plant is nice too, but is a slow grower.

Millie's Memoirs

The name is so apropos. The true edged variety becomes only a memory.

Dr. Dave, that's not a sport, but a reversion. It's Aspen Gold.

That is very pretty! Too bad it reverts :(
