AHS AUCTION CHANGES IN CLOSING BIDDING

Postby Marlys » Jan 27, 2010 4:13 pm

Don Dean (famous hosta hybridizer) heads up / coordinates the AHS ON-LINE AUCTION. He sent a message for all of here at Hallson Hosta Forum concerning the closing / winning bidding on auction items. Also please help out and forward this information to those you know may be interested / involved in bidding on the AHS AUCTION.

CHANGE IN ENDING FOR AHS ON-LINE 2010

"Each year we try to take what works and improve upon the way the auction performs.

The way that items end will change this year. End times will STILL STAGGER as in the past. Past years the items closed the moment that the internal clock hit the posted closing time. This time IS STILL important for you to pay attention to. The time posted initiates a type of “interval timer” that allows bidding to continue until there is a 5 minute lull in the bidding. Once a 5 minute break of no bids occurs, the item will close. There will be no need to “out bid” yourself.

Restated, bids will continue until there are NO bids for 5 minutes beginning at the posted closing time.

We hope that this will reduce frustration for the new comer and even the playing field for all in terms of technology skills and equipment.

This year will be evaluated to see if this change is a positive change. We will then communicate the decision to continue this as an annual practice or return to the previous year’s practice."

Yep, the rich will all win! :D

Hosta Library auctions have had this "5 minutes after the last bid" thing going on for awhile now. Has nothing to do with the AHS auction, IMHO. It's just the auction program that is there, and that's it.

Bid wisely, and with a bit of discipline.
Hope we all get what we want in the end!

The final bidding ended about 45 minutes ago, after some furious bidding for the last of the listed plants. I wonder how soon Don will post the final tally list - perhaps tomorrow afternoon? From what I know on my end, here is a partial list of mine:

H. 'Galaxy II' : $570.00
H. 'Cosmic Hippie' F2 seedling : $425.00
H. 'Tsuma Tajima' : $500.00
H. 'Kristie Axmear : $700.00
H. 'Black Hills' streaked : $385.00
H. 'Ripple Effect' : $118.00
