Strange looking Mount Tom flower

Postby redcrx » Jun 16, 2011 3:00 pm

I had been walking past this plant all day and finally notice the difference in the flower. I thought it was just half eaten by something until I took a closer look. It's on a Mount Tom that I have had for 3 years.

Mount Tom is a cross of 'Flamboyant' with 'Christmas Tree'.

In the first photo there are two Mount Tom - one showing off the flower and a larger one in the top/left of the photo. (That's Twilight in the bottom/left corner.)

It has extra sex parts. :o Just an odd throw-off, but interesting to remember in case it does this regularly. I don't think that double flowers are passed on genetically.

and 7... :hmm: petals ???
Was your Mount Tom a tiny just cut off division when you got it ?

If not, the whole plant is strange. Mount Tom is a good grower. Mine is 3 years old too and have been lacking water several times, but it is more than two feet across.
