Hosta of the Day #2 - Blackfoot

Postby redcrx » Aug 17, 2017 7:34 pm

Blackfoot is a small gold plant. I couldn't find any reference for the name "Blackfoot" but the MyHostas Database shows a picture of the flower's pedicel. My photo shows a dark bract.

Hosta Registry - http://hostaregistrar.org/detail.php?id=501&Variety=Blackfoot
MyHostas - http://myhostas.be/db/hostas/Blackfoot
Hosta Library - http://www.hostalibrary.org/b/blackfoot.html

I have it growing in a pot - I set it in the trough to get the pictures. But I couldn't get the right angle to get the flower. Hopefully I'll be able to get a straight-on shot with the next flower. I don't know why the stamen are going all over the place.

Maria (Plater-Zyberk) thought that the base of the scapes was black, hence the name. Not many people have this, although I think Tony Avent might have sold it for a year or so. Ours is back in a hospital pen after we planted it in too dry a location, but it's prominently sited for next year's tour.

Thanks Dave - that's one area I didn't get photos of.
