Id and Propogation of this Variety

Postby Carla Bass » Apr 01, 2012 11:12 am

I'd like to know what variety this clematis is. I'd also like to now how to propogate it. I've learned not to cut back as the dead wood is what produces new growth. Stem is very delicate and can break easily, so I've basically left it alone. It gets morning and late afternoon sun, being shaded in mid-day by a giant sycamore tree.

Welcome to the forums :D

So do it have flowers on look like dead wood
So do it have flowers early in the spring only
or do it have flowers early summer and a few late summer and if you cut it back one spring.. it only got a few flowers late summer`?

Clems are in 3 different groups
Spring flowering... most of them get BIG, no pruning needed and if pruned it have to be after the flower periode
Early 2 times flowering.. early summer and fall, hardly need pruning, most of them slow growing
Late summer flowering.. Jackmani types.- need a hard pruning in the spring and have flowers mid summer

Try this easy one http://www.clematis.com.pl/wms/wmsg.php/ this page have helped me a lot during the last years - seach for blue.. and do it in English.. find the Brittish flag or you will have to figure out in Polish :D
or the bigger but more difficult http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/

Possibly Ramona!
Clems are super easy to propagate by layering. Most vines are! They can be started from cuttings also.
