My first broken bone

Postby cricket » Jul 06, 2010 8:32 pm

I made it to 37 without any broken bones but turn my 3 year old loose and I get a broken foot  I was running after him (playing) and twisted on my right foot and broke the bones in my midfoot.... wow it hurts and can't get a real cast on till thursday it has a tempary cast on it for now. Isacc thought I was going to die and it was his fault.. poor lil guy is so sweet and caring (most of the time). Anyway guess I will get to hop around for a while now.

Love and hugs

Ouch! I've only had two broken bones my whole life, one was a hand fracture in college (boxer's fracture), but the worst one happened 2 months ago when I stubbed my pinky toe  My whole foot turned black and blue and my little toe swelled up like a red grape. The pain just started to go away recently but the toe is crooked and the end of it is still numb

Hopefully yours heals up quickly :D

Sorry to hear about your foot! but broken bone stories are kind of fun, aren't they? lol!

Chris, were you a boxer?! I was a big boxing fan for a LONG time... I'm one of the few people who has shaken George Foreman's hand! LOL! (really... he won't let people touch his hand). Your broken toe doesn't sound fun at all.

My first was a broken nose at age 13. I went for 11 days with black & blue eyes, headaches, and a very crooked nose before my parents decided that I should probably see a doctor. He had to re-break it to fix it, so can that count twice? lol! Also a broken tailbone and broken foot bone here. Nothing too exciting.

No, just a trouble maker  My Dad was a big boxing fan, though, so I did watch a lot of boxing growing up.

Cricket, have you been to the doctor yet? Don't do like me and Audrey and wait it out. I didn't go to the doctor for my toe either and I'm pretty certain it is badly dislocated... Brian kept trying to tell me to go to the doctor, to which I just answered "clean the pruners, I'll take care of it myself..."

Cricket,
That is no fun, going around with a broken foot. I did something like that to my left foot when I was in my 30's too. I was chasing cows, though, not a sweet little boy!
Good luck..just keep it up as much as you can to try to get the swelling down.

Awwww...I feel for you , cricket. It's never a good time to have a broken bone, but it's especially tough in these hot days of summer to have to wear a cast. I hope you heal quickly!

Oh, Cricket. So sorry about the foot. It is miserable to have a broken foot.
Broken bones are not fun. I stubbed my toe like Chris did. When I looked down at it, the little toe was sticking perpendicular to my foot. Being a girl, my first thought was that my shoes would never fit with the toe like that. So I grabbed it, stretched it out, pulled it into alignment and let go and it snapped back to where it was supposed to be. When I went to the doctor the next day, he told me I had dislocated it but he took an xray anyway. As it turned out, I had broken the one bone in 3 places, but the stretch and snap put it right. I could not wear shoes for about a month. It was November and I was wearing flip flops. Brrrrrr!
I imagine you might be off your feet a bit with a cast and all. Maybe you could turn this into a positive for Isaac by telling him it gives you more time to sit and do things with just him. You might put a basket together with fun, sit down activities to do (I Spy books, coloring books, favorite story books, Hot Wheel cars, crafts) while you are off your feet and tell him it is yours and his "special time" basket.
Anyway, hope you are all well again real soon.

Ouch!!! I know what it's like to get hurt with little ones nearby and feeling bad that they think it's their fault. I dislocated my kneecap when my girls were about 4 or 5 when I was crawling around playing with them. They were terrified and thought they had done something to me :(

Hope the pain goes away quickly... that bone pain is just no fun at all. After my knee/shin fracture surgery 3 months ago when the femoral block wore off and the deep bone pain hit me, it was not fun at all!!!

Hang in there!!!!!!!

Cricket,
Take it from someone who had a full leg cast on for over a year, keep that foot elevated as much as possible, don't try to walk alot for the next few days, and even though you have a cast, you can put ice on it. It will eventually cool down through the cast.
To take a bath or shower, stick your whole leg in a plastic trash bag and then tape it at the top with duct tape, make sure you tape high above your cast, then you can hand wash your toes and the upper part of your leg that the bag covers when you get out.

Hang in there, take it easy for a bit and it will get better!
