Nice looking King Micheal.

I got mine last year off a plant about three times the size of the one shown and it was a must have.

I looked up the registration last nite & it was listed under sport: H. montana form.

The additional description:
Bearing a strong resemblance to H. montana macrophylla, it has deeply impressed veins and the same graceful, elegant habit. White flowers.

It wasn't registered until 1992 by Peter Ruh, but was originated by Gus Krossa w/Alex Summers as nominant. So I'd say it's been around for quite a while.

King Michael (a.k.a., really, montana v. macrophylla was one of the first WOW hostas in our memory. But hard to find in the trade, even back then. Yours is pretty WOW, Barbara.

We FINALLY satisfied this craving with 'Niagara Falls,' which does MvM one better with its better rippled edges.

Ginger, that's the plastic wrap Barbara has wrapped around the petioles to keep them looking like parading soldiers.

Barbara, I think your pic is going to cause a run on this hosta, by whatever name it's called. It's a real beauty, and well displayed.
George,   ...that was a good one!

So King Michael and MvM are truly the same hosta??? I have MvM and was about to send a check for a KM this week but if they are really the same, no sense in using up real estate for a duplicate!!! :o

Ademink:

Darned if I can tell them apart. Officially, 'King Michael' should be a cloned plant where montana f. macrophylla would be a seed strain, but the reality likely is that there is only one clone of MfM in the trade, which is awfully redundant with KM. If you have enough space to have them both… But Niagara Falls is still better!

Well, I already have Niagara Falls also! Sounds like I should save my money and skip the King. Thanks so much! :D

I really like that one Barbara!

The scapes on my Niagara Falls don't show like those on King Michael. Is that because of the saran wrap? :-?
