Pic of the Day--Bright Glow

Postby Hank Zumach » Jan 02, 2008 1:15 pm

Hi All--There are some hosta varieties that almost demand your attention...Great Expectations is an easy example. Bright Glow is not such a variety. It is a nice enough plant but after saying (or seeing) it has a good bright color it is easy for your attention to move on. I purchased Bright Glow in 2000 and it has been growing (very slowly) in a spot that gets about 3 hours of sun. Beginning in 2001 its measurements have been 18x5, 19x7, 26x9, 25x9, 32x11, 26x13, and 30x10. So, after 7 years it has still not gotten to Zilis' listing of 36x13. It needs protection from slugs.

Yours is beautiful , Hank! I have a pic of mine from 2005 when it was looking pretty nice. Can't remember what it looked like last year. But I'm a sucker for the pretty yellow/gold ones, so I do like this one. :D

Yes, Pia... this is a 1986 Paul Aden introduction that is supposed to be a fast grower with heavy substance and puckering, formerly known as Golden Tardiana.

For me it is slow and unmemorable. I can't help but wonder if mine is really Golden Glow. I think sometimes the medium yellow hostas got mixed up in nurseries suffering from "its another of those yellow ones" syndrome.
