Gardenias

I have a gardenia on a standard...it was gorgeous last summer on my back deck. It is now in the house...but I have lost a lot of leaves and now have some new growth/buds on the leafed end of branches...but it is not symetrical. Anybody had any experience trimming gardenias? [NOTE: I am in Michigan].

I would not touch it now. I would shape it up this summer when it will have more time to recover when the weather is perfect.

I would see how it grows this summer and shape it then.
