Hosta of the Day 'Summer Breeze' - Post Your Pics

Postby ViolaAnn » Aug 20, 2011 6:31 am

Today's hosta is 'Summer Breeze'. Mine was one of my early purchases on or around 2000. I've divided it once; so I've concluded it's not a particularly fast grower.

Mine is 2 years old. Looking a little bleached out due to the prolonged heatwave in July.

Our Summer Breeze went from a small starter size (approx 12") to about three feet in diameter in three years time. Since then, three feet has remained a fairly consistent size.

I got my Summer Breeze at a DIY chain store reduced to 99 pence ok a single division but since repotting it has out on a lot of new growth and I have to admit I am somewhat blown over by this cultivar. It's a new one to me very impressed indeed. Planted in a small pot in grow bag compost (cheap and enough for me no garden just quite a few pots) Good luck with this one it looks stunning in my opinion

No pics as yet just joined this site and alas no camera

Name: H. 'Summer Breeze'

Description: Dark green leaves with dramatic wide gold margins. Moderately seersuckered.

Size: Medium-Large
Origin: Sport of 'Summer Music'
Flowers: Very pale lavender, tubular in early July.
Source: Budd Gardens
Added to garden: Spring 2003
Notes: Flowered in my garden for the first time in 2006. Moderately rapid increaser. Said to be subject to pest damage, but I've not had problems even in a wet year with many slugs. This is a real stand-out.

'Summer Breeze' was planted late last fall, suffered some ground heaving, but looks fine now:

2014 - this one has been in my garden about 12 years and has reached a mature size but it continues to do well. Picture July 16, 2014.

2016 update - little change from year-to-year as this one is mature.
