OC and Joy getting ready to move

Postby oldcoot » May 05, 2012 2:36 pm

Hal - Pod 0505-2012.jpg
Back in January Joy and OC decided that their health was not good enough to live by themselves much longer. SO, with our Daughter Catherine's encouragement ,we started consruction on an addition to their home in Union S.C. Of course it is way beind schedule because of all the rain we've had, but now that it is is closed in and the siding is on, they can work inside. Last week they started on the inside insulation and flooring. Hopefuly we can move the the first or middle of June beause Joy is to have a knee replacement in July.

So Far Catherine and Trampis (her husband) have had alll the fun - today started our turn to share. We started packing. We had a Pod delivered and all day Catherine and I have been packing boxes to take out to the pod. WHERE DID ALL THIS JUNK COME FROM ?

I swore when I moved into the this house would be my last but health needs dictate different.

Trampis and a neighbor are going to dig up all my Iris and several Hosta we found today, but all else will be planted new.Sure going to miss my Garden, but then that is life. Rather have my wife looked after, and me while she is in recovery from her surgery.

Hang in there with us, I'll read my e-mail as best I can, and answer when I can. We'll have a new e-mail address but not until we get moved in. Love Coot

OC, this is happy and sad news. I'm happy that you are going to be in a place where Catharine will be right there
if you need her, happy that you have a loving daughter to look after you while Joy is recovering, happy that you
recognize that this is a good thing for you and Joy. I'm sad that you are leaving the place you've called home
for years, and sad that you are leaving your garden behind.
Life always is about moving from one thing to another. Best wishes as you start this new chapter of your life.

 Yes, I couldn't believe it after moving out of my old home of 15 years, which actually had burned down 8 years before the move, and we STILL had so much junk it was hard to imagine. :D

All the best to you through the move and beyond. That is so wonderful that your daughter and her husband are able to help you so much. :D

It's kind of bittersweet, isn't it? But I think you're doing a very wise thing to move now and I hope it will all go smoothly. Good luck , OC and Joy. Those pods are great! Our friends used one to move all their stuff from Ohio to California and everything arrived safe and sound with nothing damaged! I guess the key is to pack it tight enough that nothing shifts.

Thanks every body. We are moving about an hour's drive further south, so weather won't be a problem for flowers. My kids are wonderful and spent all day yesterday packing up and moving boxes out to the pod.

Chris as soon as I get settled, I'll get you my new E-Mail address and also get re-established with the group. I am hoping that I wil continue to be able to get my Lilies ad Hosta from you - those are my plans......

Thanks everybody........Coot

If there is a good side to changes it is that you get rid of alot of stuff that you don't need and you find stuff you thought you lost! :D I am by myself again and I have learned alot about compensating! I can get out in my yard and I am learning to improvise and I love where I am. After almost 4 yrs. I still miss Lew like crazy, but I am coping! So enjoy one another and hang in there. I understand how you must have very mixed feelings in having to leave your home. We just had to move our son in with us about 6 weeks ago due to his health problems. It is an adjustment but now I don't have to worry about him and wonder if he is okay.

Peace of mind is priceless!

Hope it will be one of the best things you have ever done.

Just home from a trip to Berlin with one of my old friends.
She and her DH bought a place for themself and her parents years ago... and it have been so good for both of them. They made some agreements for privacy and she/they have been very happy, having her parents so close.

Hope it will all be just perfect for all of you :D

Wishing you the best as you move OC. Love reading your posts, I look forward to having you back online. I wonder about all the stuff at my house too; I think someone broke in and left it all there.

Old Coot and Joy -- Congrats on making a sensible move, and on having a daughter and son in law who will be close and helpful. What a great arrangement! Re: ALL THAT JUNK -- we, too, wondered that when we moved last July to our newly built home, out of the one we'd lived in for 46 years. We gave away, threw away, sold, until I thought I'd go battier than I already am, but it was a great thing to clear out and take with us just the stuff we need and want. We, like you, made our move while we still had options and didn't have to decide quickly on a different living arrangement. You and Joy are wise, and I'm sure you'll have a new and gorgeous garden at your new abode. I've been having a wheeee! of a time landscaping, planting and generally doing outdoor decorating on this "tabula rasa" that is our new lot. You will have fun, too, with yours.
Good luck to Joy with the knee replacement. My new knee is now about a year and a half old, and it works as well as my other one, which isn't impaired at all. I found out today that I can even kneel on it in the garden, something it's been too tender to do until now. My best advice is to do your recovery therapy religiously: my ortho told me that he could do a perfect replacement job, but if I didn't concentrate on the exercises afterwards, and follow through even though it was painful, I wouldn't have a good result. I did follow through, and my knee works perfectly. Again, good luck to both of you. I'll be looking forward to hearing how it all went, after you are in and settled. Love, Phyllis

Thanks for all the nice things you said. Joy has had one knee replaced already and knows ALL about rehab. From the hospital she will stay in rehab for a week - 10 days or whatever medicare allows and then ome home for further in home therapy. Having been through it,, she knows what to expect and was really concentious last time. It paid off, that knee does just fine now. However the other one is shot. That is one reason we are trying to go ahead and get moved (They are putting up the sheetrock this week and painters are already to go when they are finished. Guess it won't be long then. WIll keep you guys informed of everything as soon as I get my computer set up. Thanks again for the best wishes.......Coot :D :D :D

OC is actually doing the best he has in a long time. He thinks being able to get off all the medicine he had taken for so many years was a big help.

Got news from his daughter yesterday that they will finish painting today and start putting in the floors Monday. Thanks goodness they are through having to haul stuff in between rain showers, and can work inside. They finished the tile in the bathroom yesterday and they sent us a picture (love that E-mail) and it is a beauty.

We are estimating a June 30th move - 2 months later than we planned. OC will have WIDE sidewalks around his new flower beds so he can ride his electric wheel chair out to take photos of all the new pretty flowers he will plant this fall. Should have some beautiful Iris beds- going to move some of mine from here but plan to plant a lot of new ones, later his summer and Lilium bed with a new Hosta bed
