Thanks-couldn't resist-its already full height and I wanted a vase shaped one so I can do underplantings of some short shade perennials.

You can get some incredible buys at Agway. (our go-to source for big ferns, for example) But on Saturday we stopped in for poultry grit (used for drainage in hosta containers) and saw a 'Gold Standard' with HVX :( First time I'd seen it there. And doubly sad that I didn't have time to bring it to their attention.

Oh no-I had hoped they weren't that careless. Hope mine is okay. I don't see any odd marks or discolorations on it. They got this one from Pinewood Perennial Gardens. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the heads up.

It is a very nicely grown container of PG. I might consider leaving it in the pot for awhile. If you put in in the ground and then have to remove it later, that whole area will be suspect for some years afterwards. Of course, if it was a good deal, it might be worth the price of a test strip for your peace of mind. One thing you could do that is free is write to Pinewood PG - they have a website. They are a smallish wholesale company. I'd write them and ask what they know about HVX and what steps they take to prevent its spread. The reply would propably give you a sense of whether or not they are actively doing anything or just ignoring it.

Just sent them an email, coincidentally their nursery is about 40 minutes away from where I live.

We'll see what jumps into my car tomorrow. My mom is taking me to a nursery owned by one of the club members. She also has a Revolution and Pauls Glory for me to take home. My Revolution died last year. I need to pick a better spot for it. And I used to have Pauls Glory but it didnt make the move with me.

I had to chop a whole bunch of blue out of one of my Paul's Glory this spring... probably 20 eyes or more... but the remaining plant is still over 4' in diameter. The other one generally tops out at about 5' in diameter... it is so tough, I use it in a high-sun, high heat area as a "street planting..."

Why did you have to cut so many eyes out? Was it too big.

Morgans-I tell you, just leave the door of your car open and you would be surprised what gets in there. If I go to a shoe store the same thing happens.

I need a really dramatic looking hosta in my garden. Since this is going to be my birthday present I plan on it being a good one.
Any suggestions. I am already keeping my eye out for Mount Tom. Hubby bought me 2 hosta with the name Linda in it and I would like to get one with his name also. Right now On Stage is my eye catcher.

This is the answer I got from the Place that supplied Agway with their Hostas now I don't know what to do,

"Well, we buy from reputable sources. Most of our hosta are purchased
bareroot from sources that test their stock or should be. We have had very,
very little problem from that virus. We don't split our hosta which would be
an easy way to spread the disease."

Hope you are happy with your purchase. Agway is a good place.
