Hosta of the Day - Red Dog

Postby redcrx » Nov 10, 2014 4:54 pm

This is a little long.

Red Dog is a complex hybrid with Hacksaw and Atom Smasher in the mix. This plant is a lot bigger than its parents but still retains the rippled leaf edge. It had red in the petioles that extends into the leaf back. It produces large light-colored flowers on tall purple scapes late in the season.

I have had this plant since the 2012 season.

Here it is in 2012

Later in the season it has exploded and is dwarfing the others, and is flowering (a little early)
