Hosta 'Maraschino Cherry'

(Zilis 1999)

Clump Size: (M) 36" x 16"

Leaf Size: 7" x 3" -- Vein Pairs: 7 - 8

Description: Leaves are moderately wavy, elliptic, dark green and slightly shiny with red petioles and scapes.

Blooms: Medium lavender flowers bloom in July and August on dark purplish-red scapes followed by red seed pods.

Comments: This sport of H. 'Cherry Berry' grows rhizomatiously, meaning that it spreads by underground rhizomes, so make sure the eyes and dormant buds are completely buried about 1 to 2" below the soil. The tall scapes, petioles, and seed pods are all dark purplish-red and attract the most attention to this solid green but excellent growing hosta.

Light: Light sun to full shade. -- Soil: Humus-rich, consistently moist soil.

Related Plants: Cherry Berry

Zones: 2 - 8

Nice Hosta, but can't take late sun, edges burn. It is among numerous other Hosta, this is the only one that got burnt edges.
