Hosta montana 'Aureomarginata'

(Maekawa 1940)

Clump Size: (VL) 60" x 27"

Leaf Size: 15" x 8.25" -- Vein Pairs: 14 - 15

Description: Very large, elongated leaves are glossy green with a very wide, chartreuse changing to creamy yellow margins and cascade down from tall, upright petioles.

Blooms: Near white flower bloom in midsummer.

Comments: This popular large hosta is upright growing with the leaevs cascading downward, making an impressive clump when mature. It has a tendency to emerge very early in the spring, sometimes suffering from frost damage, so bury the crown deeply (2 to 2 1/2" below the soil) and mulch lightly in the fall to keep it dormant as long as possible.

Light: Light sun to full shade. -- Soil: Rich, moist, well-drained.

Related Plants: Mountain Snow

Zones: 2 - 8

An impressive specimen plant. Mine does well under spruce trees with a south western exposure.
