Hosta 'Radiant Star'

(Wilson/Hallson Gardens 2007)

Clump Size: (S) 12" x 7"

Leaf Size: 3" x 3" -- Vein Pairs: 7 - 9

Description: Heart-shaped leaves have a feathery, dark green to blue-green center with a wide chartreuse turning yellow margin, forming a cute, small mound.

Blooms: Pale lavender flowers bloom in midsummer

Comments: Hosta 'Radiant Star' is a showy sport of Hosta 'Radiant Edger' that differs from the parent by having a darker green center first thing in the spring and a wider chartreuse to yellow margin. The edge becomes brighter yellow when given some sunlight and the plants are quite sun tolerant. It is smaller than its parent and isn't a particularly fast grower but develops into a very cute and attractive little clump.

Light: Part sun to full shade. -- Soil: Humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil.

Related Plants: Radiant Edger

Zones: 2 - 8

I hope you enjoy Hosta 'Radiant Star', a Hallson Gardens introduction! The picture at the top is of the parent plant growing in deep shade. The picture down below is of 2nd year babies (one year younger than the plants we are shipping) that were growing in quite a bit of sunlight. Enjoy! - Chris

I am a bit lucky in having this particular great hosta since the spring of 2010. The colors are clear, intense and true. H. 'Radiant Star' grew well, remained in 'mint' condition until late, hard frosts. The great performance was in less than ideal conditions. Pretty impressive considering it's age and a moderate growth rate.
