Hosta 'Rare Breed'

(R. Livingston)

Clump Size: (M) 30" x 20"

Leaf Size: 8" x 6" -- Vein Pairs: 10

Description: This attractive tri-color hosta starts with a creamy yellow center surrounded by lighter green streaking and a green border. By late summer the center lightens to white.

Blooms: Pale lavender flowers in midsummer.

Comments: Hybridizer Ron Livingston has created some wonderful plants and he tends to only introduce some of his best plants. Hosta 'Rare Breed' has some fantastic coloring, but as a white centered plant it is also very slow growing, so we give these extra time in the ground here before selling them. Still, don't expect much for the first few years.

Light: Light sun to light shade. -- Soil: Humus-rich, moist soil.

Zones: 2 - 8

Welcome to summer - it's hosta season!

We would like to thank you for all of your spring orders. It was another successful spring shipping season and we will now continue to ship hostas, daylilies, and bearded Iris through the summer. The rest of the bare root perennials need to stay in the ground until fall as they are too actively growing to go cross country at the moment, so any new orders placed for perennials will now ship in the fall.

Hostas ship all summer and are always dug fresh. Each order is soaked for a period of time to allow the roots to absorb enough water to plump up the foliage, then the roots are wrapped in wet paper towels and covered with a bag. Your plants are sent in tall boxes to allow for all of the foliage. New orders for immediate shipping typically turned around in about 5 days, though sometimes sooner.

The nursery is NOW OPEN to the public 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm, including all holidays. We will close in October, depending on the fall weather, so if you are in the area we would love to show you around and help you pick out some plants. We are located on the west side of US Highway 127, 17 miles south of Jackson, Michigan, and 1/2 mile north of US-12.

Feel free to email us or call us toll free at 866-568-1474 with any questions and thank you very much for your continued support!

Sincerely yours, Chris Wilson and Brian Hall, Hallson Gardens
