Hosta 'White Elephant'

(Franks 2007)

Clump Size: (SM) 24" x 14"

Leaf Size: 8.5" x 3" -- Vein Pairs: 8

Description: Leaves are white in the center with a medium to dark green margin, heart shaped with a point, forming a small to medium sized clump.

Blooms: Pale lavender flowers bloom in midsummer.

Comments: Hosta 'White Elephant' is a sport of Hosta 'White Christmas' that, compared to its parent, grows a bit and can actually survive in the garden.  That isn't really saying much but it is better than some other white hostas on the market.  We've grown it with some success for several years now and finally feel confident enough to share it.  The registration has this as a large hosta but we don't think you will see that in the garden.  In most cases it will be small to medium sized.

Light: Part to dappled shade. -- Soil: Humus-rich, moist soil. Water often and fertilize occasionally to improve the performance of most white centered plants.
