The nursery is open and we continue to ship hostas, daylilies, and bearded iris through the summer

The nursery is open!

We continue shipping hostas, daylilies, and bearded Iris through the summer and the nursery is now open every day from 9am to 9pm. We are located on the west side of US-127, 17 miles south of Jackson, Michigan, 1/2 mile north of US-12. Most GPS programs and mapping programs will place you 1 mile north of our actual location. We are open all holidays through the summer.

The week of May 15th was the last week for shipping perennials in the spring, other than hostas, daylilies, and bearded Iris which ship all summer. We will resume shipping perennials the 3rd week of September. Perennials are too grown up to dig and ship bare root during the summer so orders for perennials placed during the summer will be scheduled to ship in the fall. Yes, we ship hostas all summer long and they will ship complete with their foliage. Hostas are warm season growers, putting out new roots in the summer, so they transplant very easily during the warmer months.

Feel free to email us or call us toll free at 866-568-1474 with any questions and thank you very much for your continued support!

Sincerely yours, Chris Wilson and Brian Hall, Hallson Gardens

Shipping is in full swing for the spring of 2017:

Spring shipping from our Michigan nursery is going strong!

The 2017 catalog has been a big hit and we are busier than ever getting your orders dug and shipped. In April we are shipping new orders for "asap" shipping within about one week, sometimes within a couple days, or we can hold your order until you are ready to plant. Just remember that our spring shipping season for most perennials ends the week of May 15th, so get your orders in as soon as possible. Hostas, Daylilies, and Bearded Iris will ship through the summer.

Bare root shipping and planting is best done while the plants are still dormant or semi-dormant and your ground is workable and drains well. Most of our plants can ship in April to mid-May and transplant just fine, so that is our bare root shipping window for perennials. Hostas, bearded Iris, and daylilies are warm season growers that can be shipped all summer long and into the fall but you will want to preorder now for shipping in April, May, or early June. Remember, please let us know your preferred shipping time/week at checkout. If you don't mention a shipping time we will often check your weather to make sure it is warm enough, but at this time most areas of the country should be able to plant, so orders without a shipping date entered in the ship date request field will be considered "asap".

This year's lily crop has been amazing and we have increased our cold storage space so that we can bring you an even better selection and maintain an excellent product for spring planting. These bulbs are really nice sized, with some of the OT bulbs being an exceptional 18 to 20cm sizing that should provide some fantastic flowers on thick stalks this summer. Check out our entire lily bulb selection today!

Do you need planting tips and perennial plant advice? Then check out our sister website at http://www.perennialreference.com today. It is a resource we compiled several years ago that still has some great information, even if some of the plant varieties are not completely up to date. And if you have questions don't hesitate to contact us on our forums too.

Feel free to email us or call us toll free at 866-568-1474 with any questions and thank you very much for your continued support!

Spring shipping starts soon:

Spring shipping from our Michigan nursery starts soon!

The 2017 catalog has been a big hit so far and we continue to take orders for spring shipping.  Winter has come back, thankfully, so things here are still sleeping in the frozen ground, but we should thaw out in the next week or two to begin digging and shipping.  We typically start shipping at the end of March and early April however you can tell us your preferred ship time at checkout by telling us the week you would like your plants shipped in the box during checkout.

Bare root shipping and planting is best done while the plants are still dormant and your ground is workable and drains well. Up here in Michigan our dormant planting time starts in early April and goes into May. If you want us to choose your shipping time we will look up your average spring temps and ship when your average high is 60 and your average low is 40.  This is usually the time that your ground is workable and draining well, and not too hot to shock the plants.

Lily bulbs are now in stock for immediate shipping.

Feel free to email us or call us toll free at 866-568-1474 with any questions and thank you very much for your continued support!

Sincerely yours, Chris Wilson and Brian Hall, Hallson Gardens

Welcome to the summer of 2015:

Welcome to summer - it's hosta season!

We would like to thank you for all of your spring orders. It was another successful spring shipping season and we will now continue to ship hostas, daylilies, and bearded Iris through the summer. The rest of the bare root perennials need to stay in the ground until fall as they are too actively growing to go cross country at the moment, so any new orders placed for perennials will now ship in the fall.

Hostas ship all summer and are always dug fresh. Each order is soaked for a period of time to allow the roots to absorb enough water to plump up the foliage, then the roots are wrapped in wet paper towels and covered with a bag. Your plants are sent in tall boxes to allow for all of the foliage. New orders for immediate shipping typically turned around in about 5 days, though sometimes sooner.

The nursery is NOW OPEN to the public 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm, including all holidays. We will close in October, depending on the fall weather, so if you are in the area we would love to show you around and help you pick out some plants. We are located on the west side of US Highway 127, 17 miles south of Jackson, Michigan, and 1/2 mile north of US-12.

Spring shipping is in full swing:

We are busy digging and shipping!

Thank you for all of your advance orders and new orders. We are shipping packages on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday and the plants are looking great this year. The hardy ferns are especially nice and the lily bulbs are really nice this year too with many of them being oversized from the listed bulb size. We also have a great stock of Cimicifuga for sale this year and the Hibiscus and Baptisia are looking excellent.

New orders for immediate shipping are now being turned around in about 5 days due to the high volume of advance orders that were placed during the winter and scheduled to ship this time of year. Please remember that each order is dug and prepped just prior to shipping so it does take a little extra time to get orders out to you.

Buy two get a third free fall special

Shipping for fall, plus buy 2 get a 3rd free specials (selected items - fall shipments only)

We are now shipping perennials and lily bulbs for fall planting though we are selling out of a lot of things quickly this year. Hostas can be shipped now, however we don't recommend planting mini or small hostas this time of year, especially if you are in a Northern state. Also be sure to check out our excellent selection of perennial Hibiscus for fall planting. Finally we have some great buy 2 get a 3rd free specials going on now.

The nursery is still open 7 days a week from 9am to dark through October and the few remaining potted plants, which are going fast, will be buy 1 get 1 free. Other plants can be dug from the ground. We are located 17 miles south of Jackson, Michigan on US-127, 1/2 mile north of US-12. Spring shipping is underway!

Thank you for visiting our online catalog. Spring shipping has begun so we are busy digging and prepping orders to get them out to you for spring planting. Shipping from our Michigan nursery in April means you are getting cold hardened perennial plants that were growing outdoors and can be planted directly out in your garden too. Hostas will be breaking ground here in May so if you are in a colder climate or still have a risk of frosts or freezes this is actually a good time to get your shipment because you can still plant them outside and then they will come up on your garden schedule. Or if you prefer we can hold your hosta orders until after your danger of frost has passed, just specify your preferred shipping time at checkout and we'll get your order on our schedule.

In addition to our hostas and perennials we are shipping Dutch lily bulbs from our lily coolers and everything currently in stock on our website is ready to ship right away. Orders for field dug perennials take about 7 to 10 days to turn around due to our busy spring schedule but lily bulbs typically ship within a few days of placing your order.

If you have any questions or concerns you can email us or call us toll free at (866) 568-1474.

Lily bulbs are updated and we should be able to start shipping lily bulbs towards the end of March. Remember to order ahead for best selection of all plants, and we can hold orders into May, just mention your preferred shipping time at checkout.

Thank you for a great year.

Thank you for a great year!

We are done with plant shipping for the year as the ground is frozen now here in Michigan. Thank you very much for a wonderful season. You can still order hearth crickets and gift certificates and the online catalog will be updated in January to start taking spring plant orders at that time.

Spring shipping officially starts in April though in some cases, and depending on the weather, we can often start shipping in mid to late March. Dormant plant shipping for spring of most perennials ends in mid to late May, again depending on the weather and how fast the plants break dormancy. Hostas and daylilies are shipped all summer long.

Fall shipping continues into October and November

Fall shipping continues into October and November.

We continue shipping for fall planting and our website is now updated with the first lily bulbs that are ready though a few others will be added later as they develop. Due to cold night temps in August and September our lily crop has not gone dormant yet. The bulbs are not ready as expected so we are holding some back for a while longer. We can ship the lily bulbs that are now updated, plus we have updated our Hellebore selection and are shipping those again too. Fall is the best time to transplant Hellebores and our crop is at least 3 years old and looking great.

The nursery is open 7 days a week from 9am to dark into October and we are having our annual fall clearance sale here, so if you can make the drive it is worth it for some great bargains, though stop out soon for the best selection. Spring shipping is in full swing!

Now shipping for spring!

Our growing areas are thawed out, lily bulbs are in cold storage, and spring shipping is in full swing. As of mid-April our turnaround time is about 3 to 5 days but as our busiest time approaches during May, our turnaround sometimes gets closer to 2 weeks, so order as soon as possible and then let us know your preferred shipping time during checkout. This way you get on our schedule and we will send your shipment when you are ready to plant. With most perennials they transplant easiest while they are still dormant and they will wake up with the rest of your plants. If you can work the soil in your garden without it being water logged then you can plant our field grown, freshly dug perennials. In April our hostas are shipped completely dormant in peat moss and starting in May they will be shipped wrapped in wet paper towels as they will be just starting to emerge from the ground. Contact us if you need help picking out a good shipping time or have any planting questions.

As advance orders come in, some items are going out of stock. If an item says out of stock you can click the button to add your email to be notified when that item is back in stock. This is a great way for you to know as soon as the item is available again for advance order, and also gives us the chance to keep up with our production needs for the future.

Feel free to email us or call us toll free at 866-568-1474 with any questions and thank you very much for your continued support!
