Asarum canadense

Asarum canadense, Canadian wild ginger, is a native woodland plant with satiny and fuzzy, medium green heart shaped leaves with brown-purple flowers at soil level. It grow 8 to 10" high and spreads 24" or more and will seed about to make a great naturalized, shady groundcover. It is deciduous, so dies back in winter, but forms a thick, weed blocking mass in summer. It works well in problem areas or on slopes and is quite drought tolerant once established so grows well in dry shade.

Height: 6 - 10" Spacing: 18 - 24" apart or more
Light: Part shade to full shade Soil: Humus-rich, well-drained
Bloom Time: Late spring Zones: 3 - 9
