Baptisia 'Indigo Spires'
Selected because of its excellent habit and heavy flower production, Baptisia 'Indigo Spires' forms a fully rounded, 3 1/2 to 4' clump of blue-green foliage and in early summer it has 12 to 15" spikes of deep violet purple flowers with a yellow midrib, all around the clump. (PP#26750)
Baptisia is a member of the legume family so it has a pea-like flower and rounded leaves like sweet peas and lupines. They grow to shrub-like proportions but die back to the ground each winter. It grows from a very deep taproot and will develop a massive root system over time, but can be moved successfully when dormant in the spring and fall.
