Chelone 'Hot Lips'

Chelone 'Hot Lips' has deep rosy-pink blossoms in late summer on 36" upright stems with glossy, deep green, serrated foliage on darkly tinted stems. They love to grow in rich, moisture retentive soil and the flowers are a hummingbird favorite. Give them rich soil for best growth and plant them in full to part sun if they have constant natural moisture, otherwise they are better in light sun or partial shade.

Chelone 'Hot Lips' is sometimes listed as a cultivar of C. lyonii but we believe it is more likely a hybrid and not a true cultivar so we don't list it that way. In comparison to Chelone obliqua, this plant has slightly larger flowers and foliage that is wider, darker green, and very glossy. The stems are also slightly darker, but otherwise from a distance the two will look about the same in the garden.

Height: 36" Spacing: 18 - 24" apart
Light: Light sun to light shade Soil: Humus-rich, consistently moist
Bloom Time: Late summer Zones: 4 - 9
