Dicentra spectabilis

Dicentra spectabilis is the old-fashioned bleeding heart. It forms a large mound of powdery green, cut foliage on fleshy stems and in spring has many long branches of pink heart-shaped flowers. They like loose, rich, well-drained soil and are quite drought tolerant. Plant it at the back of the garden in a spot where it won't be missed when it goes dormant in the summer.

Height: 30" Spacing: 24 - 36" apart or more
Light: Part shade to full shade Soil: Humus-rich, well-drained
Bloom Time: Spring Zones: 2 - 9
