Dryopteris intermedia - fancy fern

Dryopteris intermedia is hardy Eastern native fern with a delicate look.  The leaflets are lobed and toothed, giving it a lacy appearance that is quite attractive in the garden.  It is easy to grow in moist soil in part to full shade, growing about 24" high and 36" wide.  Plant in a sheltered location to prevent wind damage and kee evenly moist for best growth though it will tolerate dry conditions fairly well.  It has many common names including fancy fern, intermediate wood fern, glandular fern, and evergreen wood fern.

Height: 24 - 36" Spacing: 24" apart
Light: Part shade to full shade Soil: Humus-rich, consistently moist but well-drained, cool and sheltered
pH: Slightly acidic to slightly alkaline Zones: 3 - 8
