Hosta 'Eye Catcher'

(Goodwin 1996)

Clump Size: (S) 24" x 12"

Leaf Size: 4" x 3" -- Vein Pairs: 5

Description: This smaller, dense clumping hosta has rounded, cupped, and corrugated leaves that are bright yellow in the spring turning chartreuse to green as the season progresses. In brighter light the leaves may stay yellow longer.

Blooms: Lavender flowers bloom in midsummer.

Comments: Hosta 'Eye Catcher' is at its best in the spring when the bright yellow color stands out in the garden. It would make a good companion for hostas that start out more green in the spring, or combine it with a blue plant like Hosta 'Halcyon' or Hosta 'Blue Jay'. That way it will stand out all season long, even after it has darkened to more green in the summer.

Light: Light sun to full shade. -- Soil: Humus-rich, moist soil.

Zones: 2 - 8
