Hosta 'Moon Shadow'

(Savory 1988)

Clump Size: (SM) 24" x 12"

Leaf Size: 6.5" x 3" -- Vein Pairs: 6

Description: This vigorous hosta has elongated, wavy leaves that are yellow with a green margin. In summer it develops spots that gave this hosta its name.

Blooms: Pale purple flowers bloom in August.

Comments: Hosta 'Moon Shadow' is a vigorous, rhizomatous hosta making a nice mound. It also has a tendency to develop some odd spotting on the foliage, much like Hosta 'Sea Sprite', so it is considered an oddity in the garden. Some say these spots are how it was given its name, looking like spots from craters on the moon. The spots are genetic, possibly induced by cold, and are not from a virus.

Light: Part shade to full shade. -- Soil: Rich, moist, well-drained soil.

Zones: 2 - 8
