Hosta 'Spinach Souffle'

(Solberg 2006)

Clump Size: (M) 30" x 14"

Leaf Size: 8" x 8" -- Vein Pairs: 10 - 11

Description: Rounded, thick and corrugated leaves emerge slightly blue-green in the center with a chartreuse edge and become bright rich green with a golden yellow margin.

Blooms: Near white flowers bloom in June and July.

Comments: Hosta 'Spinach Souffle' is a sport of Hosta 'Garden Treasure' that shows some polyploid characteristics. it is an attractive plant that holds up very well throughout the growing season and will show the brightest coloring when planted in some bright light. While some say that this is a pure tetraploid we find that doubtful as the solid yellow sport of this plant tends to actually grow larger, indicating that only the center coloring of this plant might be a polyploid.

Light: Part sun to dappled shade. -- Soil: Humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil.
