Oriental Lilies

Oriental hybrids tend to have larger flowers and wider foliage than the Asiatic hybrids, plus they are later blooming and very fragrant. Plants occasionally need staking to hold up the giant flowers, especially if they are growing in some shade. Dwarf cultivars grow 12 to 18" high and work well in raised planters or at the end of raised beds. Regular cultivars grow 30 to 48" high, with some even higher. These bulbs are somewhat slow to multiply so work well when they are tucked in between or underplanted with clumping perennials. They will grow in full sun to part sun in rich and loamy, well-draining soil in zones (4) 5 to 8 (9).
